We’re not talking biscuits
Being the UK’s number one agency in food, drink & hospitality our ears pricked up when we heard there was a new EU directive on cookies.
In fact we couldn’t believe it. What would it mean? Would we be forced to banish the traditional tea break for a more continental cookie break?
You can imagine our disappointment when we found out it was nothing to do with cookies you eat. It’s about cookies that collect data every time you visit a website. Fortunately, our digital team is already on top of it.
But are you ready?
In May last year, the EU issued a directive setting out new rules on privacy and security with regards to cookies. UK firms were given a year’s grace period to comply with the requirements, which means all websites must be compliant with the directive by 26 May 2012. The changes will affect nearly all businesses with a website.
After this date you’ll have to gain consent from the website user before these cookies are used to collect data about their visit to your site.
It’s just the way the cookie crumbles
Failure to comply could result in a fine. So, don’t get caught dunking your biscuit in your tea…cookies are what’s hot at the moment.
