We’re big believers that good things happen when people connect. Whether it’s a spark of inspiration, a new contact, or a collaboration that leads to years of doing business, the magic often starts with a simple conversation.
But we also know that for many young people entering the industry today, networking doesn’t always come naturally. The impact of Covid meant fewer opportunities for face-to-face contact, and for those early in their careers, the idea of walking into a room full of strangers can be daunting.
That’s why we’re excited to be partnering with Arena and Performance Works to launch the Arena Networking Navigator – a brand-new programme designed to help the next generation of hospitality professionals build confidence and sharpen their networking skills.
With a little structure, support and practice, anyone can learn how to network in a way that feels authentic and impactful. This course has been designed to empower those starting a career in hospitality and foodservice to make meaningful connections. Our CEO, Anita Murray is a skilled networker – some say she has more connections than the London Underground – and she’s ready to share her skills as part of the programme.
“Networking doesn’t need to be slick or scripted – it’s about curiosity, connection, and genuine conversation,” Anita says. “I still remember my first networking event; I didn’t know anyone and felt like a fish out of water. But I gave myself a pep talk, walked in, and said hello. That first step opened so many doors.”
Anita will also be joined by guest speaker Andrew Allen, food entrepreneur and entrepreneur in residence at Bidfood.
The Networking Navigator is a six-session hybrid course that includes online learning, expert speakers, and two live Arena events, including the Arena Christmas Event at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park. It covers everything from crafting a great elevator pitch to navigating a busy room with confidence (and even how to exit a conversation gracefully).
For us, this is about investing in the future of our industry and helping brilliant people unlock their potential. When we network with purpose, generosity and a bit of curiosity, we all stand to gain.
The first session kicks off on 22 September.
