“It’s all about getting to the root of the information, understanding the facts, and communicating them clearly.”

With Covid 19 having an impact on all aspects of business, a clear, robust crisis communications plan is more important now than ever.

While all situations are different, generally speaking, many of the rules for dealing with a crisis remain the same. It’s all about getting to the root of the information, understanding the facts, and communicating them clearly.

Getting a clear process in place from the start is key. So, to help you, we’ve listed out our top tips:

  1. Identify and form a crisis management team – each company will be different, but pull on the expertise you have from comms, legal, HR, marketing and operations

  2. Set out some clear ways of working e.g. a daily call, or update

  3. Identify and train the company spokespeople – pick someone who is calm, confident and good under pressure

  4. Identify and understand the needs of your stakeholders (internal and external)

  5. Develop and agree key messages and holding statements so you can respond promptly

  6. Develop and update Q&A documents throughout the crisis as events change so all questions can be answered promptly and succinctly

  7. Set up a system for monitoring the situation so you can respond quickly
